Yaozhou Foliate-rim Plate
Song Dynasty 960-1279, China
Diameter: 15 cm
A plate of foliate form with six notches in its rim, in the form of silver and lacquer wares from the early Northern Song Dynasty. The piece is covered with a pale green opaque glaze, possibly in imitation of Yue Ware pieces, which were prized as court tribute during this period. The glaze ends unevenly around 1 cm surrounding the rimless counter-sunk foot well, a telltale of its Yaozhou Kiln origins.
