Green Glazed Deep Bowl
Tran Dynasty, 14th c. Vietnam
Height: 8.1cm x Diameter: 11 cm
A stoneware bowl with steep form decorated with raised slip dots set against double incised lines about a centimeter below the mouth rim. This style of decoration is influenced by Chinese rice measure cups. The piece is covered in a rich, translucent kelly green glaze to just above the foot-rim on the exterior, and covers the interior with the exception of a doughnut shaped area left unglazed in the bottom to facilitate stacking in the kiln. The underfoot is unglazed, revealing a light buff colored stoneware clay body.
Provenance:
John R. Menke Collection and thence by decent.
