Jizhou Tortoiseshell Bowl

Southern Song - Yuan Dynasty 13th - 14th c., China

Diameter: 11.5 cm

A stoneware bowl with rounded cavetto glazed in a blackish brown glaze with vibrant amber colored “tortoiseshell”

decoration. The pattern is repeated on the exterior. The glaze ends well above the foot, revealing a pale stoneware body, and

a stoutly potted foot canted in the underfoot well.
